Priority Registration Request Procedures (Faculty/Staff)
This request process is for Baylor administrative staff to request new Priority Registration Groups, not an individual student exception request process.
Purpose
The primary purpose of registration at Baylor University is to ensure that all students have an opportunity to make adequate progress toward graduation. In order to match institutional resources with students’ academic needs, priority is limited to students who have a significant commitment to representing Baylor, an appropriately documented disability, or scheduling constraints due to the academic program they are completing. Regardless of the purpose of granting priority, it should typically only occur within a student’s classification. Any constituent group wishing to pursue the possibility of becoming a priority population must begin by exploring options to alleviate scheduling constraints through means other than registration priority prior to making a request for priority.
You can find the current registration order & priority populations on the BearWeb Registration Schedule Webpage
Process & Procedure
All priority populations will be formally reviewed every five years to determine if they remain relevant to the goals of Baylor University and continue to meet the expectations in the policy statement above.
The Office of Institutional Research will analyze the impact of priority registration populations on four- and six-year graduation rates every five years to determine the impact on First Generation College Students (FGCS), Students from Underrepresented Minority Groups (URM), and Pell Status Student groups.
The Request for Priority Registration Form is available by request through the Office of the Registrar and by emailing the University Registrar directly at Michelle_M_Johnson@baylor.edu.
Any group wishing to request to receive priority registration must submit the Request for Priority Registration Form to the University Registrar at least six months prior to the term for which the priority is requested.
All requests are reviewed by the Priority Registration Committee, which consists of the following representatives:
- Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education & Academic Affairs
- Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Operations
- University Registrar
- Faculty Senate Chair (or designee)
- Student Government Representative.
All proposals will be reviewed by the Priority Registration Committee above, after which the Committee will send a recommendation to the Provost for a final decision.
Anyone submitting a request should expect to receive a decision within two months of the date of submission.
