Cancelations, Drops, vs. University Withdrawals
Definitions
- Cancelation – Canceling (removing) all classes before the 1st day of classes.
- Drop – Dropping one or more, but not all, classes from a student’s schedule from the 1st day classes through the 50th class day in a semester (or equivalent).
University Withdrawal – Officially discontinuing all classes for which a student is registered on or after the 1st day of classes through the 50th class day in a semester (or equivalent).
Students may drop all classes in a current term by submitting a University Withdrawal Request at this link. The official effective withdrawal date is determined by the date the student submits the withdrawal form.
- Late Withdrawal Exception - A university withdrawal after the 50th class day in a semester (or equivalent) is not allowed except by submitting a Late Withdrawal Exception Request.
Withdrawal Periods
- Administrative Withdrawal (AW) period
- Dropping/withdrawing from the 1st class day through the 12th class day in a semester (or equivalent).
- Classes are removed from the student’s transcript.
- Students may drop classes (unless it is their only class, which constitutes a withdrawal) in BearWeb. Instructions may be found here.
- Withdrawal (W) period -
- Dropping/withdrawing after the 12th class through the 50th class in a semester (or equivalent)
- Will result in a “W” (Withdrawal) notation for the class(es) on the student’s transcript.
- Students may drop classes (unless it is their only class, which constitutes a withdrawal) by contacting their advisor for approval.
- A drop after the 50th class day in a semester (or equivalent) is not allowed except by appeal to the student’s academic dean.
- Late Withdrawal Exception - A university withdrawal after the 50th class day in a semester (or equivalent) is not allowed except by submitting a Late Withdrawal Exception Request.
