CLSS Terminology
Terminology used during the Class Schedule build process in CLSS:
Modes
The Mode determines the Source of Truth as departments are building their schedules. There are two different modes:
- Design - CLSS is the "Source of Truth". Section changes are not pushed back until the end of the Design phase. This is the initial development of the departmental schedule nearly ready for publication.
- Refine - Banner is the "Source of Truth". Individual section changes are pushed back to Banner.
Phases
The Phase determines what type of information can be changed. There are 5 phases leading up to Registration:
- Schedule Build - is the initial development of the class schedule and corresponds with the "Design Mode" above.
- Any section update can be made at this time, based on the rules in CLSS.
- Room Assignment - sections are being assigned rooms in Ad Astra.
- No changes can be made during this phase.
- Refine - after room assignments, but before the schedule is published and visible.
- Any section update can be made at this time, based on the rules in CLSS.
- Max Enrollment cannot exceed room capacity
- Published - the schedule is published and visible to students.
- Any section update can be made at this time, based on the rules in CLSS.
- Registration - registration is underway.
- Some scheduling limitations are in place:
- Sections cannot be deleted, but can be canceled.
