Instructional Monday (Saturday 4/11/26)
What is an "Instructional Monday"
An Instructional Monday is an additional special asynchronous instructional class day pertaining to ALL M courses (M, MWF, and MW courses), designated as a "Monday" class meeting to ensure all students receive the full academic experience required by higher education accreditation standards.
When will the Instructional Monday occur?
The Spring 2026 traditional term instructional Monday will be an asynchronous online class day on Saturday, April 11th.
Why is this happening?
Baylor's accrediting body requires that the academic calendar include 75 instructional days each semester for each of our meeting patterns, including 70 classroom days and five final exam days, while accommodating Baylor holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Spring Break, Good Friday, and the Monday after Easter.
Why are the traditional Spring terms short on Mondays?
Due to the way the Spring academic calendar falls, Baylor is short on "Monday" classes due to multiple holidays that fall on Mondays (MLK, Spring Break, Easter). The additional Instructional Monday was created in order for the traditional term to meet our accrediting requirements.
Why was an asynchronous class added?
The asynchronous day provides flexibility for faculty to explore new ways of delivering engaging, meaningful content, whether through virtual discussions, recorded lectures, or creative assignments. Faculty will outline their plans for this day in their syllabi at the start of the Spring semester to ensure students are aware and well-prepared.
Faculty Resources
Resources for faculty who want to learn more about creative ways to engage students in the asynchronous environment are available through Baylor’s Academy for Teaching and Learning.
