Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAT API Example)

The Catalog (CAT) API provides a streamlined way to integrate official catalog content directly into departmental websites. By using catalog data as the single source of truth, departments can ensure accuracy, reduce maintenance efforts, and enhance the user experience.

Benefits include:

  • Greater compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. (e.g. One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3) requirements)
  • Real-time access to the latest catalog information.
  • Elimination of redundant updates across multiple platforms.
  • The ability to supplement catalog content with department-specific guidance, resources, and messaging.

Current Program Requirements:

Communication Sciences and Disorders (BS)

The Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders provides the pre-professional courses required for graduate study in either speech-language pathology or audiology. The entry level for practice as a speech-language pathologist requires a master's degree in speech-language pathology. A doctorate of audiology (AuD) is required to practice audiology. Upon completion of the advanced degree in either field and the licensure/certification requirements, a person may work in a variety of settings, including schools or other education agencies, medical clinics or other medical/nursing facilities, health agencies, or private practice.

Admissions Requirements

Students who wish to change their major to Communication Sciences and Disorders after completing coursework at Baylor may do so during the eligibility period, from the end of a full semester once final grades are posted through the 5th class day of the following term. Transfer students and students who wish to change their major to Communication Sciences and Disorders after completing work at Baylor must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.  All CSD students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in CSD coursework.

Further Education

Students planning a career in audiology and speech pathology are encouraged to pursue a master’s degree. Upon completion of the master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, students are eligible to seek certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and to seek licensure as speech pathologists.

The Masters (MS) education program in Speech-Language Pathology at Baylor University is accredited by:

The Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
2200 Research Blvd.
Rockville MD, 20850
(301) 296-5700.

Practical experience is offered through the Baylor University Speech, Hearing, and Language Center, which provides diagnostic services and treatment for patients who have communication disorders. Services are provided to the community for a small fee. Appointments may be made at the clinic by calling 254-710-2568.
